FAQ

Using Your Laurastar

WHAT WATER SHOULD I USE WITH MY LAURASTAR?

Laurastar products have been designed to work only with tap water. Please note that no additives should be added at any time such as perfumed water, water containing chemical products, or water collected in the dryer as these may damage your Laurastar products.

Distilled water is not recommended because it is too pure and does not contain any minerals and thus no conductibility. The absence of conductibility will prevent the probe inside the boiler detecting the water level. It is thus advised to use tap water only.

With tap water it is recommended to use the Laurastar granules or anti-scale cartridges, which prevent limescale, filter salts, and are anti-corrosive. The granules and anti-scale cartridges help prolong the life span of your Laurastar.

Please note that if you are equipped with a water softener at home, your Laurastar products will also benefit from the granules and anti-scale cartridges.

Granules and anti-scale cartridges can be purchased on Laurastar’s online store and in selected Laurastar partner stores.

WHEN AND HOW DO I REPLACE THE ANTI-SCALE CARTRIDGE OR THE ANTI-SCALE GRANULES?

There are 2 anti-scale systems for Laurastar products which vary by models: anti-scale cartridges and anti-scale granules for anti-scale water filters.

1) If you own a Laurastar steam generator Laurastar Lift, Lift Plus or Lift Xtra:

The anti-scale cartridge should be replaced when the red indicator light for the cartridge is turned on and a warning tone sounds.

Lift the cover of the water tank and remove the water tank by pulling on its cover. Empty out the water and remove the used anti-scale cartridge. Insert a new anti-scale cartridge and fill the water tank with tap water. Finally, validate the change by pressing the change cartridge switch.

Anti-scale cartridges can be purchased on Laurastar’s online store and in selected Laurastar partner stores.

2) If you own a Laurastar ironing system Laurastar Go or Laurastar Go +:
Use the external filter which allows you to filter tap water before it is used for ironing. Anti-scale granules for anti-scale water filter should be replaced when they turn completely brown.

Remove the filter part, lift the lid and throw the the used granules in the bin. Clean thoroughly the filter, fill it up with a new anti-scale granule refill and place the lid back on. Put back the filter and fill it with cold water up to the MAX level.
Anti-scale granules refills can be purchased on Laurastar’s online store and in selected Laurastar partner stores.

3) If you own a Laurastar ironing system (such as Laurastar S4a, Laurastar S5a, Laurastar S6a, Laurastar S7a or Laurastar Pulse):
Anti-scale granules for anti-scale water filter should be replaced when they turn completely brown. To replace them, take out the cold water tank and remove the filter. Take off the lower section and throw the used granules in the bin. Clean the filter thoroughly then refill the lower section with a new whole sachet of granules and replace the cover. Reattach the lower part from below. Put back the filter in the water tank and fill it with cold water up to the MAX level. Then place the water tank back in its holder.
Anti-scale granules refills can be purchased on Laurastar’s online store and in selected Laurastar partner stores.

4) If you own a Laurastar ironing system Laurastar Smart
Anti-scale filter should be replaced when it turns completely brown. To replace it,  take out the cold water tank, remove the filter, place the new filter in the water tank and fill it with cold water up to the MAX level.

1) If you own a Laurastar steam generator Laurastar Lift, Lift Plus, Lift Xtra:

1. Lift the cover of the water tank

3. Fill the refill bottle supplied with water. Equipped with an anti-overflow mechanism, it will stop filling up when the water tank is full (the capacity of the bottle is greater than that of the boiler).
4. Unscrew the refill cap and place the mouth of the bottle in the hole.
5 Briefly squeeze the bottle to start the water flowing.
6. When full, carefully screw the refill cap back on.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I RINSE THE BOILER OF MY LAURASTAR?

1) If you own a steam generator Laurastar Lift or Laurastar Lift +:

These should be drained at minimum every 10hrs of use & each time you change the anti-scale cartridge.

To rinse the boiler, follow the instructions in the instruction manual provided with your new product. The user manual is also available on the Laurastar website.

2) If you own an ironing system (such as Laurastar Go, Laurastar Go +, Laurastar S4a, Laurastar S5a, Laurastar S6a, Laurastar S7a or Laurastar Pulse):

The boiler should be rinsed with warm tap water before its first use and then every month thereafter (or every 10 hours of ironing). The ironing system should be cool, switched off and unplugged.

Warning: Never use scaling or other chemical products; rinse the boiler with water only!
To rinse the boiler, follow the instructions in the instruction manual provided with your new product. The user manual is also available on the Laurastar website.

HOW DO I ADJUST THE TEMPERATURE OF MY LAURASTAR IRON?

Set the thermostat to  • • or  • • •  depending on what kind of fabric you are ironing.

It will take around 2 minutes for the iron to reach the desired temperature.
Tip: before ironing or after an extended break, press the steam button away from your fabrics 2 or 3 times to get rid of condensed water in the steam cord and to prevent water marks on the clothes.

HOW DO I UNCLOG THE HOLES IN THE IRON SOLEPLATE?

Clean the holes where steam comes out of the iron when they are clogged or there is scaling using the cleaning tool provided with your Laurastar. Then press the iron’s steam button 2 or 3 times, while pointing it away from the fabric, to release any condensation from the iron and prevent water marks on your clothes.

Please use a suitable alternative such as a paper clip if you have lost your cleaning tool.

HOW DO I CLEAN THE IRON SOLEPLATE IF IT IS DIRTY OR MARKED?

If the soleplate is dirty or marked, clean it with the Laurastar cleaning mat (it can be purchased on Laurastar’s online store and in selected Laurastar partner stores).

Stubborn marks can be cleaned using an abrasive sponge. Then get rid of the aluminium oxide under the soleplate by cleaning it with a damp cloth.

HOW DO I OPEN AND SET UP MY LAURASTAR?

If you own a Laurastar ironing system (such as Laurastar S4a, Laurastar S5a, Laurastar S6a, Laurastar S7a or Laurastar Pulse):

  • Remove the iron from its box and place it on the iron rest.
Hook the steam cord into its holder.

  • Remove the iron protective soleplate when it is still hot and place it on a heat-resistant surface. Clean it once it has cooled down.
  • Place the insulating mat back on the station, then the iron.
  • Roll the electric cable, as well as the steam cord around the appliance. For the Laurastar Lift + models, pull on the electric cable to activate the automatic roll-up and wrap the steam cord around the appliance.

  • Place the iron in the basket and slide the basket underneath the board.

  • Lift the ironing board horizontally, holding it by both ends. The weight of the steam generator will cause the appliance to close; if necessary, guide it with your foot. Close the board vertically.

3) If you own a Laurastar ironing system (such as Laurastar S4a, Laurastar S5a, Laurastar S6a, Laurastar S7a or Laurastar Pulse):

My Laurastar is Not Working

WHY DOES THE IRON NO LONGER EMIT STEAM?

There might be several reasons.

Please make sure that the appliance is switched on and that the water tank is full.

Please use exclusively tap water with our products in order to optimize the good functioning of the steam.

The holes on the iron might be obstructed by limescale and should be then cleaned with a specific cleaning tool. If the appliance is scaled the boiler then needs to be rinsed.

Please also check that the appliance is directly plugged in the electric plug without any extension or multi-socket adaptor.

It happens that following the filling of the water tank, water has accumulated in between the tank and the boiler: please keep this area where the filling cap is situated very dry.

Lastly, when handling a Laurastar Lift, please make sure that the water tank is correctly placed.

WHAT DO I DO IF DROPLETS OF WATER ARE COMING OUT OF THE IRON WHEN I START TO USE IT?

Before ironing, or after an extended break, press the steam button away from your fabrics 2 or 3 times to get rid of condensed water in the steam cord and to prevent water marks on the clothes.

WHAT DO I DO IF THE IRON SOLEPLATE DRIPS?

If the iron soleplate drips, check that:

  • The indicator light is on.
  • The boiler has been rinsed recently.
Condensed water in the steam cord has been evacuated by pressing the steam button away from the fabrics 2-3 times. This must be done before each ironing session or after a long break.
  • Only tap water and Laurastar anti-scale water filter granules or anti-scale cartridges are used.

If you have just put on the cold iron protective soleplate on the hot iron, condensation can build up. Wait several minutes until the protective soleplate reaches the same temperature as the iron.

If the iron continues to drip, call Laurastar Customer Service.

THE IRON IS NOT HEATING UP – WHAT’S GOING ON?

If the iron is not heating up, check that the appliance is plugged in and that it is set up properly.

THE IRON IS TOO HOT. HOW CAN I ADJUST THE TEMPERATURE?

If the iron is too hot, adjust the temperature by setting the thermostat to ••.

WHY IS MY LAURASTAR SWITCHING OFF AUTOMATICALLY?

The appliance switches off after 10 or 15 minutes of inactivity (depending on models) for greater comfort and safety.

WHAT DO I DO IF THERE IS A CONTINUOUS « BEEP » SOUND AND THE « NO WATER » LIGHT INDICATOR TURNS RED?

1) If you own a steam generator Laurastar Lift or Laurastar Lift +:

These two alerts signal that there is almost no water left in the water tank. If there is a continuous beep and the water light indicator turns red, refill the water tank with cold tap water and put it back in its place. If the light stays red when the water tank is full, this means that the tank is not in its proper place. Remove the water tank and put it back in place fully, with the cover open.

2) If you own an ironing system Laurastar Go or Laurastar Go +:

These two alerts signal that there is almost no water left in the boiler tank. To fill it up, follow these instructions:

  1. Press the « steam » button on the iron and hold it down until any residual steam has been fully released.
  2. Switch off the Laurastar Go/Go+ and disconnect the plug from the outlet.
  3. Slowly unscrew the refill  cap (with a cloth to avoid any direct contact with the steam) until you hear or see the steam escaping – around 2 turns – and wait until the steam has been fully released.
  4. Unscrew the cap fully.
  5. Refill the bottle provided with water and place the mouth of the bottle in the hole of the boiler.  Briefly squeeze the bottle. Once full, carefully screw the refill cap back on.
  6. Plug the appliance back in and switch your Laurastar back on to continue ironing.

3) If you own an ironing system (such as Laurastar S4a, Laurastar S5a, Laurastar S6a, Laurastar S7a or Laurastar Pulse):

These two alerts signal that there is almost no water left in the water tank. Remove the water tank without switching off the ironing system, fill it with cold tap water up to the MAX level then put the water tank back in the boiler.

THE LIGHT INDICATOR IS FLASHING DURING IRONING IS THIS NORMAL?

Yes, it is normal. The light indicator flashes while you iron to indicate that the water is heating up.

STEAM IS ESCAPING THROUGH THE REFILL AND DRAIN CAPS OF THE BOILER – IS THIS NORMAL?

If steam is escaping from the boiler, check that it is properly closed. If steam continues to escape, the seal or the cap itself should be replaced. Contact our Customer Service for more details.

WHY IS THE BOARD’S BLOWER/VACUUM SYSTEM NOT WORKING?

The active board can only work if the fan is plugged in. Make sure that this is the case.
